Players can have a go at 18 in final round

June 21, 2009

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. -- As GolfDigest.com reported Sunday, the 18th tee markers will be moved up about 45 yards for final round play. This will take the soggy landing area out of play. Throw in a Northerly wind, and some longer hitters might be able to drive the green.

What do the numbers tell us?

The hole should measure around 354 yards, down from 411.

The carry past the right fairway bunker swarm is 260 yards, and 277 yards past the left fairway bunkers.

The yardage to the front of the green from the right bunker is 91 yards and 79 from the right.

Davis plans a front hole location which, when combined with the uphill lie and u-grooved wedges, could send an approach shot spinning back down off the fairway.

But hopefully a few guys will take a crack at the green and give the home fans something to cheer about.
