Players 2021: Denny McCarthy makes hole-in-one during Friday charge, provides fantastic reaction
In the COVID Era, we've seen some awkward reactions to holes-in-one due to an absence of fans. But with limited spectators back at TPC Sawgrass for this week's 2021 Players Championship, that was not a problem on Friday morning. And Denny McCarthy certainly didn't hold back.
For good reason, too. Not only had the 28-year-old just made his first career hole-in-one on the PGA Tour, but it vaulted him within one shot of the lead at the tour's flagship event. In other words, "WOO!"
Watch the perfect shot on the par-3 third, Denny's loud reaction, and playing partner Cameron Tringale getting pretty fired up as well:
Pretty cool scene there. And one we may not have seen if not for the PGA Tour showing coverage of every shot from TPC Sawgrass this week. Phew. Especially for Denny, because that's a keeper.
Statistically the tour's best putter the past two seasons, McCarthy was able to give the flatstick a breather on that one. As mentioned, the timing for hole-in-one number one was great as well.
The ace vaulted McCarthy to six under and within one shot of Sergio Garcia's first-round lead. He would par his final six holes of the day to post a second consecutive 69.
And a lack of a play-by-play announcer helped because we could actually hear Denny's reaction. Just kidding. Everyone would have heard that no matter who was talking.
