Phil Mickelson and Danny Woodhead talking calves is the bromance golf Twitter deserves

October 16, 2020

By now you’re probably aware that Danny Woodhead, former PPR dynamo for the likes of the New England Patriots and (then) San Diego Chargers, has been bitten by the golf bug. HARD. In fact, given the severity of the affliction and the season of its bloom, it’s really more of a golf Dracula than a bug. He shrugged off unretirement rumors so we could play more. He subjected himself to the merciless swing pointers of Max Homa. He even recently qualified for the 2021 U.S. Amateur Four Ball at Chambers Bay. He’s put in the work, and the golf world has begun to take notice, including Phil Mickelson, who struck up an unlikely bromance with the former waiver wire pickup on Twitter.

First of all, love the motto “just trying to get decent.” Not biting off more than he can chew. Not trying to take shortcuts or get golf rich quick. Woodhead is taking the stairs, one step at a time, and as Phil astutely points out, stairs are, in fact, good for your calves. The wisdom of the sensei is not lost on the pupil either, with Woodhead firing back . . .

Now that you mention it, Danny, those are prettayyyy tight. Not like Walker Buehler spray-on tight, but not a lot left to the imagination either. That said, when you’re yucking it up with Phil on the Twitter machine, qualifying for U.S. Amateurs, and generally living the retirement dream of 75% of able-bodied men in America, you can wear whatever the hell you want. Just don’t let Homa see you in those. You’ll never hear the end of it.
