This PGA Tour pro could give Steph Curry a run with his incredible three-point shooting

June 02, 2023

The most dominant PGA Tour performance of 2023 took place earlier this week. It just happened on a basketball court instead of a golf course.

Shout-out to Denny McCarthy. Arguably/probably the tour's best putter, there is no debating that he is the tour's best three-point shooter. Because while he's still in search of his maiden PGA Tour title at this week's Memorial Tournament, he easily won the tour's first three-point contest down the road Ohio State's practice facility. Have a look:

What a stroke! What touch! Somewhere, even Steph Curry has to be impressed.

At one point, someone jokes if McCarthy, a former high school basketball player at Georgetown Prep, still has eligibility at his alma mater, the University of Virginia. But before you get any ideas, Denny, remember that you're 5-foot-9.

Seriously, the dude scored 21 and 23 out of a possible 30 points. And although a couple other players—particulary Sahith Theegala (Wearing a golf shirt!) and Russell Henley had their moments, they were no match for McCarthy, AKA Denny Trey. OK, we'll work on the nickname.
