Pettersen's cold putter

OAKMONT, Pa. -- Suzann Pettersen, the machine who can't miss a green, has been sorely let down by her putter. I just watched her play the front nine, and if I had only seen her hit her approach shots I'd just know she was leading the Championship.

Alas, she's missed makeable putts on Nos. 4, 5, 6, 9 and 10. (All of those putts were shorter than eight feet long.) That five-shot swing would have put her in a tie for the lead with Paula Creamer. These putting woes are akin to what happened at the 2010 Kraft Nabisco Championship, when Pettersen couldn't hold on to her lead and lost the event by just a stroke.

Even with all her misfortune on the greens today, Pettersen stands at even-par today. Should the putts start falling, she still has a chance of cranking up the heat and giving Paula Creamer a run for the Championship.
