The Palmetto Championship at Conagree, a one-time replacement for the RBC Canadian Open when COVID-19 travel challenges forced the cancelation of the 2021 tournament, will be the third PGA Tour event in South Carolina during the 2020-21 season. With the U.S. Open a week away, some of the tour’s best will be looking to get in some last-minute prep before heading to Torrey Pines for the major.
Along with South Carolina native Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka will be making his first start since his runner-up finish at the PGA Championship. Fellow major winners Lucas Glover, Jason Dufner and Padraig Harrington will tee it up as well at Congaree.
Also notably, a pair of college/amateur stars are set to make their professional debuts. Florida State's John Pak, the top player in the PGA Tour University ranking and winner of the Fred Haskins, Jack Nicklaus and Ben Hogan awards for national college player of the year awards, and Georgia's Davis Thompson, teammates on the victorious 2021 U.S. Walker Cup team, are both in the field.
Also making a debut is Congaree, a Tom Fazio design that ranks No. 39 on Golf Digest’s 2021-2022 ranking of America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses.
The winner of this event will receive 500 FedEx Cup points and a $1.314 million share of the $7.3 million purse.
