Friday looked like a lovely day to play some golf at the Open de Portugal

September 18, 2020

Stateside, the U.S. Open conditions have been pretty, pretty, pretty OK this week. Overcast skies with no rain. Temps in the mid to upper 60s. Sure, the wind picked up on Friday afternoon, but if this is the answer to “what will a fall U.S. Open look like?” the only question is why haven’t we been doing it all along. Over in Portugal, where the European Tour has pitched its tent for Open de Portugal, however, the weather couldn’t be more different. We now throw it over to Aaron Cockerill with the accu-weather forecast . . .

Holy Hurricane, Batman. That is some Grade-A, angus-certified links weather if we’ve ever seen it. Mr. Spackler, if you’d please do us the honors.

As you’ve probably guessed, the horn sounded not long after that video was taken, sending the players to the showers (not that they needed them) midway through the second round.

Beautiful Mamaroneck, NY it ain’t, but with the Open cancelled this year, it’s good to see Mother Nature can still open up a can of whoop ass with the best of them. See you at Royal St. George’s next summer, sweetheart.
