Nick Faldo: 'Now we're approaching having another big three in the game of golf'

    August 16, 2015

A common television and Twitter theme in the wake of Jason Day's emotional victory over Jordan Spieth in the PGA Championship on Sunday is the strong position professional golf is in.

"G'day to Australia and welcome to J-Day to the major circle," CBS' Nick Faldo said. "We had the big three moons ago. Now we're approaching having another big three in the game of golf."

Faldo was referring to Rory McIlroy and Spieth, the latter of whom has supplanted the former as No. 1 in the World Ranking.

"There are others who could widen that circle," CBS anchor Jim Nantz said, without mentioning names.

For today, it looks like this in the World Ranking: Spieth (22) is No. 1, McIlroy (26) is No. 2, and Day (27) is No. 3. They seem poised to participate in a fierce rivalry and motivate one another for years to come.
