Korn Ferry Tour pro makes miraculous birdie off of an unreplaced divot chunk

Every golf shot is an opportunity for something new. Unfortunately, every golf shot is an opportunity for something new. Korn Ferry Tour pro Cooper Dossey found this out the hard way in Sunday’s opening round of The Bahamas Golf Classic when he walked up to his shot and noticed something he had never encountered before … his golf ball lying on an upside-down piece of turf.
Yes, that’s right. The 26-year-old’s tee shot at the par-4 14th hole landed right on top of a chunk of turf from a nearby divot. The Rules of Golf say to play the course as you find it, not play the course as you find it unless you land on an upside-down piece of turf. Thus, Dossey had to try his luck at a newfangled shot.
“Never had this happen before,” Dossey posted, along with some remarkable photos. “One of my better birdies!”
This hole was ultimately one of Dossey’s four birdies of the day as part of a bogey-free opening round at The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic. He followed that 66 up with a 65, putting him in T-9 and solid contention at The Ocean Club Golf Course.
It’s unclear which golfer didn’t replace his divot (SHAME! SHAME!) but Cooper Dossey overcame the obstacle and even went a little viral too, just for kicks.
