It’s golf’s most-anticipated day of the year. Yes, Masters Monday is upon us—but we’re perhaps most excited because we get to see how oddsmakers are adjusting odds for competitors in the 2024 Masters field.

If you’re like us, you’ve been betting Masters futures for the 260 days since Brian Harman lifting the claret jug. But for true golf bettors, nothing is quite like the Monday perusal the Masters odds. Who moved the most in the futures flip this morning? Who is trending? And above all else, why are a majority of the elite players in golf struggling this year?

The 2024 PGA Tour season has created more questions than answers as we head down Magnolia Lane. Why did Justin Thomas split from his caddie one week before the Masters? The oddsmakers are paying attention. One year ago, Thomas was among the elites as a 22-1 favorite to win a green jacket. A year later, his odds are 40-1 as of Monday. Some bettors will say that’s tremendous value for a two-time major winner, but tread lightly—don’t forget JT missed the cut here last year, and that’s a bad trend to be a part of.

Watch our video breaking down the best and worst value bets for the 2024 Masters:

Speaking of two-time major winners, Collin Morikawa’s odds to win the Masters are 55-1! He opened a year ago at 30-1. Morikawa’s move down the betting board has been a rapid descent. Collin just finished the Valero Texas Open at five over par and 25 shots off the leader. Similar to Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay opened at an incredible number today; 35-1. The eight-time PGA Tour winner came into Augusta last year at 20-1 odds and a large part of the winner conversation.

Who are the oddsmakers signaling positive vibes about?

Hideki Matsuyama is playing green jacket golf. The 2021 Masters winner has everyone’s attention since his stellar back nine at Riviera and winning the Genesis Invitational. Matsuyama’s ball-striking has been incredible. He gained over 14 strokes on the field T2G at The Players! Prior to the win in February, Hideki had not had a top 5 since the 2023 Players. His futures odds were very high (80-1 or more) to win the Masters and now he comes in at 22-1 (or lower in some cases).

If you are going to back Hideki this week, he is definitely a Monday bet. The conversation will not stop around him driving that number below 20-1 by Thursday.

Certainly, Scottie Scheffler is the favorite to win, but another player who has been equally consistent in 2024 is Xander Schauffele. Schauffele has six top 10s this year. Although he has not won, his game is in a very well-rounded place. In six trips to Amen Corner, Xander has three top-10 results. He knows Augusta National. With questions surrounding Rory McIlroy’s game, Jon Rahm on LIV, and the other elite players falling off, Schauffele has a very good chance to break through. Just like Hideki, his odds are dropping quickly.

Xander is my second Monday Masters grab at 16-1.
