LPGA pro suffers bad break of the year as would-be ace hits the bottom of the cup and bounces out
Bad beats are typically reserved for poker players and degenerate college basketball bettors, but they can also strike golfers when they least expect them. Just ask LPGA pro Peiyun Chien, who was on the wrong end of one of the worst heists you’ll ever see at the LOTTE Championship on Thursday, when she dunked her tee shot on the par-3 15th only to watch it strike the bottom of the cup, bounce out and roll to eight feet. Viewer discretion advised.
Someone call the cops because that’s a mugging. The announcers downplay it—“that’s kind of a bummer” they said after watching the replay of the ball literally GOING IN THE HOLE—but that’s a felony in our book.
Chien went on to two-putt for a par that felt very much like a double, but the good news is her bullseye on the 15th wasn’t an aberration. The 34-year-old shot a five-under 67 on Thursday—including a scintillating five birdies on the front nine—to finish the day tied for second. If she keep ups that level of play through the weekend, she might get the best of lady luck yet.
