    Save for later

John Daly the blackjack player would usually be happy with a 19. John Daly the golfer? Not so much.

The two-time major champ racked up the staggering score during Friday's first round of the Sanford International. Daly's 19 on the par-5 12th hole at Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls is a PGA Tour Champions record.

Originally posted as a 17, officials adjusted the score to a 19 after Daly signed his scorecard. He hit seven golf balls into penalty areas on the hole. The PGA Tour Champions doesn't have ShotLink, but here's one of the craziest play-by-play recaps you'll ever see:

Daly continued to play after, making a birdie and a bogey over the final six holes. He finished with an 18-over-par 88, which doesn't seem nearly as bad when you factor in he was 14 over on one hole. The 59-year-old is in last place by nine shots after one round.

Daly broke an unfortunate record of his own as well. His highest score on a hole in competition previously was an 18 on the par-5 sixth hole at Bay Hill during the 1998 Arnold Palmer Invitational.
