John Daly is playing in a Monday qualifier for this week's Valspar Championship
John Daly made it official last week that he'll join the PGA Tour Champions in May. But that doesn't mean that's the last fans will see of Daly on the PGA Tour.

Daly hopes to play in this week's Valspar Championship, and we say "hopes" because he's trying to get into the field the hard way. With no sponsor's exemption like in year's past, the two-time major champ is one of 168 players signed up for a Monday qualifier at Southern Hills Plantation Club.
Traditionally, four spots in the event are awarded from the qualifier. Here's a link to the leader board for the one-day tournament that includes the likes of Jonathan Byrd, Jhonattan Vegas, Ollie Schniederjans, Ben Curtis and Jarrod Lyle.
Daly has already committed to four events on the senior tour, starting with the Insperity Invitational the week of May 2. He turns 50 on April 28.
The colorful golfer has missed the cut at the Valspar in each of the past three years, including in 2014 when he shot a second-round 90 at Innisbrook's Copperhead Course. That career-worst score was lowlighted by a 12 on the par-4 16th. After the round, however, Daly redeemed himself with this awesome quote:
"It was a good 12. I got up and down for 12."
