    Caddieing The High Seas

The KFT caddie's name is Jack Sparrow. We repeat: This KFT caddie's name is Jack Sparrow

When you have a name that's been in the movies, the jokes can get pretty old pretty fast. I have personal experience on this front - "is your brother Austin?!" was the first thing people would say to anyone in my family for a solid 10 years after the original Austin Powers movie came out in 1997.

However, some names, usually full ones, are so insanely coincidental that folks wear them like a badge of honor, as they should. That is clearly the case here for Korn Ferry Tour caddie Jack Sparrow. We repeat: Korn Ferry Tour caddie JACK. SPARROW.

If this dude's nickname isn't "The Captain" or "Captain Jack," what are we even doing here?

A quick bit of Googling confirms that that's exactly what Sparrow's Indiana Hoosiers mean's golf teammates called him when he joined the squad in the fall of 2014. Unfortunately, that Google search also reveals that his real first name is James, but he's gone by Jack since birth. As he told Barstool Sports' Dan Rapaport, though, the first "Pirates of the Caribbean" film came out when Jack was eight, so it's not like his parents gave him the fun nickname at birth because of Johnny Depp's electric performance. Him having the same name as one of the most recognizable movie pirates ever was purely coincidental.

As Sparrow told Golfweek back in 2018, he was stopped in his tracks when he first heard the Jack Sparrow name on TV.

"I was sitting in my living room and I heard the trailer come on and I was like, ‘What did he say?'" Sparrow said. "I couldn’t believe it."

Sparrow also said he's had to break out the ID one too many times for people to actually believe that's his name, which is not surprising because it's still hard to believe. Here's hoping he and Overton make a run in the NV5 Invitational out in Illinois this week, just for the meme potential alone.
