Prepping for major championship season isn’t exclusively reserved for the men’s pro game. With the Chevron Championship just a month away, the LPGA’s top stars were looking to get in some reps over the next few weeks. So it was that 22 of the top 25 players in the latest Rolex Women’s World Ranking were in the field at this week’s Ford Championship in Phoenix.
The player on top at the end was, get this, the same player who was on top of the LPGA event last week and on top of the Ford Championship last year: Hyo Joo Kim. She topped Lilia Vu with a birdie on the first playoff hole a year ago, and just last week topped Nelly Korda to win the Founders Cup. This week, for her ninth career LPGA title, she earned $337,500 from the $2.25 million purse. Korda finished second place again for the second consecutive week.
Up next is the Aramco Championship at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas. There will be a week off before the tour heads to Los Angeles, then to Texas for the first major of the year.
