Goydos Leaves Tour After Ex-Wife's Death
Having become an everyday hero to many PGA Tour fans after going head-to-head with Sergio Garcia at the Players Championship last May, only to lose in a playoff, PGA Tour veteran Paul Goydos continues to live a tragic life at home. His ex-wife, Wendy, died early Saturday morning in California as Paul was flying back from Hawaii after a missed cut at the Sony Open.
Goydos, 44, was entered in this week's Bob Hope Chrysler Classic but has suspended his tour schedule to be with his daughters, Chelsea, 18, and Courtney, 16, his agent, Bobby Kreusler, told Golf World Monday. Paul has had custody of the children after divorcing Wendy in 2004.
As of press time, the cause of Wendy Goydos' death was not known. Late last year, Paul was quoted in Golf World (Newsmakers, Nov. 28, 2008) as saying that she "has a substance abuse problem that she's fighting through." An autopsy report is pending.
