‘Swing of the day’: DP World Tour pro whiffs like a batter on a filthy curve ball after cough during his backswing
For as long as anyone can remember golf has been predicated on two things: Solid contact and unbroken silence. Unfortunately, Keita Nakajima got neither on Thursday at the Open De France when a cough during his backswing led to one biggest—and most bizarre—whiffs you’ll ever see in professional golf. Watch it and weep (tears of laughter probably).
We’ve all been there and done that during our early golf misadventures. We also see pros shank it Just Like Us on occasion. But a complete and total airball? That’s rare. Luckily for the 2024 Hero Indian Open champ, he pulled up at the last second, avoiding contact with the ball and sparing himself an embarrassing gaffe. Because Nakajima deliberately ejected at the last moment, he wasn’t charged with a penalty stroke and went on to post a four-under 67.
Nakajima jokingly called it his “swing of the day” following his round, but if a little cough disrupts him like this, it’s safe to say we won’t be seeing him tee it up at WM Phoneix Open anytime soon.
