Deion Sanders telling current Colorado players to enter the transfer portal because he’s bringing his own guys is classic Prime
Deion Sanders is officially the head ball coach at Colorado University. After just over two years at the helm at FCS Jackson State, where he lead the Tigers to back-to-back SWAC Championships, Sanders is taking his talents to one of the worst Power Five programs in the nation. Not just his talents, however. Also his swagger and, to hear him tell it, a few of his former players. Here’s how he broke the news to current Buffs players at his introductory meeting on Sunday.
We’re honestly not sure if this is the best or worst motivational speech we’ve ever heard. On one hand, calling players “luggage” is bad. On the other, well, at least you know where you stand. Regardless, one thing is certain: Nothing in the history of Prime has ever been more Prime.
Sanders isn’t planning to stock the Colorado cupboards with just former players, though. In his opening press conference, he also announced his son Shedeur Sanders—the current quarterback at Jackson State—by saying “that’s your quarterback … he’s going to have to earn it though.” Unfortunately his brother, JSU safety Shilo Sanders, won’t be coming, at least not at first.
Love it or hate it, this is at least an accurate representation of what the Sanders regime is going to be like. It worked wonders at JSU, but Colorado is a totally different level, in terms of play, in terms of recruiting, in terms of scrutiny. It’s Nebraska Jr., which is to say it’s one of the biggest rebuild jobs in the nation. Will Prime pull it off? Will the mighty Buffs' rumble strike fear into the hearts of opponents once more? Time will tell, but at least he’s bringing his Louis.
