Daniel Berger was a late WD on Sunday morning at the BMW Championship, a move that ends Berger’s season-long revival.
The 32-year-old entered the week at No. 33 in the FedEx Cup standings. With the WD, he will not advance to the season-ending Tour Championship next week. Berger cited a finger injury as the reason for pulling out. He was two over through the first 54 holes at Caves Valley.
Though his year ended on a sour note, Berger’s rejuvenation was one of the stories of the season. The four-time tour winner and former Ryder Cupper’s career was in doubt after missing nearly two years due to a back injury. However, Berger earned status for 2025 with a T-2 finish at the RSM Classic last fall.
He did not let the good finish go to waste. Berger was a runner-up at the WM Phoenix Open in the winter and followed up with a T-3 at the signature event RBC Heritage. He made the cut in all four majors and jumped inside the top 40 in the Official World Golf Ranking. Because he reached the BMW Championship, Berger will be exempt for all signature events in 2026.
With Berger out, Justin Rose had to play as a single at the BMW on Sunday morning.
