Golf was the tiebreaker in Corey Kluber winning the A.L. Cy Young Award (at least that's what we're going with)

November 13, 2014

On Wednesday, Clayton Kershaw was officially awarded the National League Cy Young Award (given to the league's best pitcher) after having wrapped it up months ago. In the American League, though, things were much tighter.

You could have flipped a coin between Seattle's Felix Hernandez (15-6, 2.14 ERA, 2.56 FIP, 248 Ks, 46 BBs, in 236 IP) and Cleveland's Corey Kluber (18-9, 2.44 ERA, 2.35 FIP, 259 Ks, 51 BBs in 234.2 IP), but it was Kluber topping "King Felix" in a close vote, 169-159. The 28-year-old Indians ace would have been our choice as well. Just check out his Twitter bio:

Pitcher for Cleveland Indians. Married to @AmandaKluber. Enjoy spending free time with family & playing golf.

And of his 15 posted photos, three are golf related, including one of Bubba Watson holding up a pink driver and these two beauties:

Smart. And:

Pebble Beach's iconic seventh hole? Yep, the man has taste. Heck, Kluber even listed "Tin Cup" as his favorite movie in the team media guide.

On the other hand, Google "Felix Hernandez golf" and about the only thing that turns up is this sad video of someone, who may or may not be Hernandez, hitting a terrible tee shot:

Better luck next year, Felix. Both on the baseball diamond and the golf course.
