After the third round of the ANA Inspiration, Nelly Korda was asked about being in contention at a major championship. “It’s exciting,” she said. “It’s one of the reasons why you play golf is you play with the top players in the world and playing for a major championship doesn’t get any better than that.”

About twenty-four hours later, it got better than that as Korda captured the ANA Inspiration for her fourth LPGA title since 2018 and her first major championship, birdieing the par-5 18th hole in a playoff with Mirim Lee and Brooke Henderson for the win.

The 22-year-old fended off a group of players with solid golf resumes, including Lee (who chipped in on the final hole to tie Korda), Henderson, Stacy Lewis and Lexi Thompson and enduring searing heat for most of the week with temperatures well above 100 degrees. Korda produced six birdies during a final-round 69, with none as important as the deuce at the 148-yard par-3 14th, where she staked a iron shot and made the putt to take control of the tournament.

Korda switched earlier this year to Titleist’s T100 irons, the company’s follow-up to its AP2 model. The T100 boasts reduced offset and a thinner topline than the AP2 and uses a hefty amount of tungsten in the middle and long irons to promote a higher launch. For the week Korda hit 58 of 72 greens for a 80.56 clip, hitting no fewer than 14 greens in any round. She also provided plenty of pop off the tee, averaging 282 yards for the week while hitting 44 of 56 fairways with her 10.5-degree Callaway Great Big Bertha driver—the combination of distance and accuracy leaving her in excellent position to set up her approach shots.

In fact, Korda’s tee-to-green game was so strong in winning the ANA one might even say it doesn’t get any better than that.
