    'Tis the Season

Bowling Green-Toldeo delivered the first signature MACtion moment of the season on Tuesday

    November 16, 2022

A light snow falling. Thanksgiving on the horizon. Two midwest programs throwing haymakers under the lights on a school night, blowing by the over by the middle of the third quarter. It’s the most wonderful time of the year. It’s MACtion SZN, baby.

On Tuesday night, Bowling Green and Toledo delivered all of that and more in the first great MACtion epic of the season. Trailing Bowling Green by six and facing a 4th-and-7 at the Falcons’ 31 with less than a minute remaining, Toledo wide receiver Devin Maddox slipped a couple tackles like an eel and dove for the pylon, tying the game. The extra point, miraculously, was good. Game, set, match.

But in the Middle American Conference it ain't over till it’s over, and the 14.5-point underdog Falcons pushed the ball downfield, needing just a field goal to win it. On 3rd-and-10 from the Rockets' 42 yard line, QB Matt McDonald rolled right and found running back Ta’ron Keith streaking out of the backfield. More abysmal, snow-game tackling ensued as Keith rumbled his way into the red zone and beyond, crossing the goalline with nine seconds remaining to seal the biggest upset of the MACtion season thus far. This is college football as the gods intended it.

Now, as we all know, pesky things like data and stats don’t mean sh*t in the crucible of MACtion, but the win probability chart in the final minute of Tuesday’s tilt tells the story almost as well as the highlights.

Complete and total chaos. Complete and total MACtion. Enjoy the anarchy while it lasts, however, because these days—these wonderful, wondrous days—don’t last forever.
