Anthony Kim's international franchise
Money no doubt was the overriding issue, but Anthony Kim, who has voiced his desire to be an international player, has added a foreign sponsor, a Canadian bank.
Kim agreed to a multiyear endorsement contract with RBC, the sponsor of the Canadian Open, RBC announced today. Kim will carry an RBC-branded tour bag, the company said.
An American of Korean descent, Kim may unwittingly have benefitted from having publicly embraced the Canadian Open last year, at a time when most of the game's elite no longer play the tournament.
"There's a lot of history here," Kim said during the Canadian Open last summer. "Chris Armstrong, my new agent [with IMG], is from this area. He told me what a wonderful golf tournament it was. And I saw that RBC was making a conscious effort to get people over here and to make the tournament as good as it can be. So I felt like this was somewhere I wanted to be."
