Adam Thielen’s Alex Trebek tribute cleats will punch your feels right in the gut

As I sit down to write this, the world has been without Alex Trebek for about 10 days now and it already feels like an eternity. The ‘Jeopardy!’ host and all-time television—NAY, human—great, left a void in American culture simply too great to ever fill. Sorry, Steve Harvey. Too bad, Drew Carey. It’s not happening, don’t even try.

If you weren’t a regular ‘Jeopardy!’ viewer (tisk tisk), however, and don’t fully grasp the impact Trebek had on so many people’s daily lives, you needed only to look at Adam Thielen’s feet during warm-ups on Monday night, when the Vikings wide receiver could be seen rocking these bad boys in tribute to the quiz master himself.

We never thought a pair of cleats could get us emotional, but here we are. It’s just been that kind of year. The halo over Trebek’s head is perhaps a bit much (and we suspect he’d say the same), but the rest of the ensemble is on point, down to the subtle nod to Thielen’s no. 19 and the Trebek Adidas logo, which would sell a zillion t-shirts if someone out there is looking for a get-rich-quick scheme.

The best tribute of all, however, was definitely Thielen’s absurd one-hand touchdown grab in the first quarter, which led the Vikings to an essential divisional win on the road.

We’re not big on the mumbo jumbo around here, but something tells us Trebek was doing the big skol in the sky when he saw that replay.
