A legend avoids Augusta
Frank Deford, widely recognized as a legend in the business of sportswriting (he's written for Sports Illustrated for 46 years), does a regular spot on National Public Radio and was heard by columnist Craig Swalboski of the Post-Bulletin in Rochester, Minn., explaining why he does not attend the Masters.
"He 'doesn't go back' to the Masters," Swalboski writes, "because he 'did a nasty piece on the Masters (in 1995, he called the tournament the last dictatorship in American sports) and 'doesn't want to test' whether he'd be thrown out."
