The Auburn men's golf team celebrates at Omni La Costa Resort after defeating Florida State and winning the 2024 NCAA title.

Defending champion Auburn, Oklahoma State, Mississippi, Texas, Arizona State and LSU earned top seeds when the NCAA Division I men’s golf committee revealed on Wednesday the 81 schools and 45 individuals who will be playing in the six 2025 NCAA Men’s Regional tournaments being held around the country May 12-14.

The top five teams from each regional and the low individual not on those teams advance to the NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Calif., May 23-28.

Fourteen SEC teams earned NCAA postseason berths, the most of any conference. The ACC got 12 teams into the field while the Big 12 had 11 teams. The Big Ten has seven teams qualify.

Auburn earned a No. 1 seed in its home regional as it aims to defend its team title from a year ago. The last school to repeat as men’s winners was Alabama in 2013 and 2014. Georgia Tech senior Hiroshi Tai earned medalist honors a year ago; the last individual champion to win in back-to-back years was Phil Mickelson at Arizona State in 1989 and 1990.

This is the 16th year the men’s national championship is including match play to decide the team champion. The tournament begins with a 72-hole stroke-play segment to crown an individual champion (who will earn exemptions into the U.S. Open this summer and next year’s Masters) and whittle the field down to eight schools. Those teams will then compete in a head-to-head match-play bracket.

Thirty-eight programs have advanced to match play since the format was adopted in 2009, with Illinois and Oklahoma State having the most appearances with nine, followed by Texas and Vanderbilt with seven.
