This was a miserable winter in the Northeast.

I started to worry about what would make it worse—if the endless snow would put our golf course behind schedule in the spring. Then Golf Digest’s Drew Powell reported the good news: turns out a blanket of snow is actually helpful to golf courses. As Paul Dotti, the Director of Club Operations at Arcola Country Club in Paramus, N.J., told Powell, the snow serves as a form of insulation for the turf. Sure enough, I just drove by our course, it already looks lush, and it’s opening on Wednesday.
