    The U.S. Open qualifying season is not just about the longshots and the dreamers.

    It’s also about people who have no business being there. Although Golf Digest’s Chris Powers wrote about the social media influencer who is getting torched for his local qualifier 82, that’s a pretty standard-issue bad day in these events (the results of which we're tracking again this year). In 2022, Shane Ryan talked about the real disasters, namely players who can’t break 100, and probably fibbed their way in. The year of Shane’s story, there were 12 players who scored triple digits, and understandably, only a handful agreed to talk to him. “It was just one of those bad days,” one pro who asked to not be named said. “Golf is witchcraft.
