Rory McIlroy and several other marquee players have chosen not to play in next week’s signature event at Doral.

And it should be another wake-up call for the PGA Tour in trying to always get the best players in tournaments together. (There's talk of possibly 16 signatures in the future.) This will be the second straight $20 million event that the World No. 2 will skip after winning his second straight Masters. McIlroy has routinely skipped Harbour Town, but now he’s rebuffed the Cadillac Championship that’s returning to the Blue Monster, owned by President Donald Trump, for the first time in 10 years. Also not in the field are Matthew Fitzpatrick, Xander Schauffele and Ludvig Aberg. It’s a reminder that players of McIlroy’s stature, with major preps on their mind, are free to pass up huge dollars to rest and recharge, and there are tournaments that simply have to accept it.
