After the conclusion of the season with Tuesday night’s Final, won handily by Los Angeles Golf Club over Jupiter Links, the answer is that the numbers were down, but seemingly not to an alarming extent. According to Sports Business Journal’s Josh Carpenter, the Season 2 ratings before the Finals, played on Monday and Tuesday, were down seven percent from last year, with an average of 463,000 viewers. As Carpenter notes, that was with the addition this year of Nielsen’s Big Data and out-of-home figures, which could be expected to provide a numbers boost. As colleague Joel Beall noted in his analysis of Season 2, Tiger Woods’ presence is an existential piece for the league, and he only hit nine shots the entire season—all of them on Tuesday night. Indeed, the only time TGL ever reached one million viewers was in Woods’ debut last year. This season’s largest audience (793,000), according to SBJ, was for a January match between Jupiter and New York. There was an encouraging upside of late: a 34-percent increase in audience for the March 17 semifinals (508,000).

One of the biggest questions facing TGL in its second season was if it would keep eyeballs or see interest wane.
