Pierceson Coody’s quest to be the first grandson of a Masters champ (Charles Coody, 1971)

to compete at Augusta took a big hit Friday morning when he WD’d from the Texas Children’s Houston Open with a back injury. Pierceson, who opened with a 70 at Memorial Park, is 51st in the OWGR. The top 50 after play ends Sunday earn invites. Coody now must hope someone inside the top 50 slides out and/or nobody jumps him. However, Sam Stevens (No. 50) shot an opening 67, as did Adam Scott (No. 52). Yep, it will be an anxious weekend for Pierceson and family.
