Lydia Ko’s best U.S. Women’s Open finish in 14 starts was a T-3 at CordeValle in 2016.
If she finishes third or better this week at Riviera Country Club, the 29-year-old New Zealander is likely to accomplish a notable LPGA milestone: She would become the tour’s all-time money leader. Ko currently has made $22.8 million in 270 career starts. That’s second only to Annika Sorenstam, who earned $23.5 million in 308 starts. The USGA has not announced the prize money payout yet for this week, but last year it handed out a record $12 million. First place earned $2.4 million, second place $1.29 million and third $809,242. Ko needs $767,007 to pass Sorenstam.
