Everybody talks about how something needs to be done about slow play.

Not enough people are talking about what the LPGA is actually doing. For the second time this season, a player received a one-shot penalty for failing to adhere to the LPGA’s tougher pace-of-play policy put in place in February 2025, and it proved costly. On Saturday at the ShopRite LPGA, Arpichaya Yubol was hit for “exceeding her maximum time allowed” on the 13th hole. It kept her from forcing a playoff Sunday after she shot a closing 66, finishing instead in solo second to Celine Boutier. In February, Jin Hee Im was similarly penalized at the JM Eagle LA Championship. Im still was in a playoff on Sunday, but lost to Hannah Green. Kudos to the LPGA for not just writing new rules but enforcing them. Let’s see if USGA officials will have the same conviction at this week’s U.S. Women’s Open, notorious for its six-hour early rounds.
