Can a lie be too good?

I played a few days ago in Southern California on kikuyu grass, that spongy stuff that makes the ball sit right on top. Every shot I hit out of the rough came out dead and ultimately well short, but it wasn’t because grass was getting between the club and ball. The lies were so good that I was catching all the shots on the top of the clubface. Best in New Jersey Teacher Nick Bova says when you have a great lie in the rough, play the ball more forward in your stance and tilt your upper body away from the target. You want to swing more up on the ball, not down.
