Folks are missing the point on Alex Fitzpatrick.

The Englishman drew social media criticism following the Fitzpatrick brothers' win at the Zurich Classic, with some arguing the 27-year-old shouldn't get a two-year tour card—along with invitations into PGA Tour signature events and the upcoming PGA Championship—for riding Matt Fitzpatrick's hot streak. Set aside that Alex held up his end in New Orleans: he was already on track for a tour card through the DP World Tour's Race to Dubai rankings. He won the Hero Indian Open last month, finished T-6 at the Joburg Open and posted six top-25s in seven starts this year before the Zurich. There are plenty of legitimate targets on golf’s meritocracy front, but Alex Fitzpatrick isn’t one of them.
