Overview
Blue Mound Golf & Country Club is a hidden gem among the more talked-about Seth Raynor original designs, but one of his rare Midwest layouts with great history, having hosted the 1933 PGA Championship won by Gene Sarazen. The routing starts with a unique par-4 Redan then is followed by a number of other great templates: a Double Plateau, a Biarritz, an Alps then a Road hole. Other notables include a Punchbowl at the par-4 eighth hole, the difficult par-4 10th, one of Raynor's best Prized Dogleg templates with a fabulous putting surface, a terrific 14th dubbed Garden City and two great par 3s on the back—another Redan (the par-3 13th) and a terrific Eden hole for the 17th. Blue Mound continues to earn recognition and deserves to be in the conversation with the Midwest's best classic courses.

“Blue Mound is a historic golf course located in Milwaukee. One of the remaining Seth Raynor courses in the country that has restoration work done to get back to a more classic course. The course has had original fairway widths and original green sizes restored while removing many trees that had been planted over the years. The course has added some tee areas that will help get the length to modern standards. The shot options of the course is excellent. The course does offer challenging approach and short game shots. The closely mown areas around the greens with severe slopes on and around the greens make it critical hit quality iron shots. The greens had challenging humps and quadrants that make it difficult to make putts without extensive course knowledge. The challenge of the course is excellent. The greens and deep bunkers offer difficulty in scoring while being very fair. The conditions of the fairways were very good. They played firm and fast even with rain. The greens were large with difficult hole locations. The greens were excellent in condition with the speed and quality of the turf being consistent. The challenge of the course is very good. The length of the course and the repetitive length of some holes make it difficult to give it a higher number. The aesthetics are outstanding. The details are all there from rakes, markers, flowers, and even sculptures. The course is surrounded on all sides by trees that make the city feel far away. The drive into the course off the busy road leads you down a lane that creates a relaxed country feel. The tree removal on the course allows for the attractive clubhouse to be seen from almost all of the course. The character of the course is outstanding. The traditions are kept and the Seth Raynor feel is there throughout the course. The standard template holes are there with subtle variations that make them feel unique. The road hole is a par 5 that is demanding and a joy to play. The bunkers on the hole must be avoided and the green is very difficult. This course is a classic course that plays well in a modern era."
