100 GREATEST/BEST IN STATE SCORES

“Course was in really inconsistent shape and maintenance has been an issue due to some financial difficulties beyond their control. However, the pro said they are headed in the right direction and he is hopeful the course conditions will continue to improve. The variety of the links front nine and the forest back nine added some intrigue to this Pete Dye layout. The course is a bit off the beaten track. I would certainly enjoy playing here if I were a local, but until the conditions improve, I wouldn't go way out of my way to travel here. I would like to come back in a year or two and I'm guessing the course will be more impressive. On a recent road trip playing 12 courses, I would rank Big Fish in the bottom half (relative to some really great courses). The half way watering hole - Mulligan's Pub was great as were the staff. I do like courses where the tee box yardages are well thought out - Big Fish: 4,940, 5,646, 6,084, 6,608, 7,231. When you have 400-600 yards between tee boxes, golfers are more apt to play from the appropriate tee box."

“A hidden gem of Pete Dye design. The front plays along the ground in links fashion, the back is hilly and more challenging test with forced carries and smaller targets. This course would get 4 1/2 stars if conditioning improves."
