100 GREATEST/BEST IN STATE SCORES

“Red Hawk is a Ken Dye design that demands heroic golf shots. A golfer who likes downhill holes and who has a natural draw off the tee will enjoy this course. The greens are tremendous; each one resembles a crumpled cloth napkin, with high contours that can be used a backstops and low points that drain off the green into runoff areas (but fortunately not into the bunkers that surround most greens). In a moderate wind, this layout could be quite tough, and this is probably not a good course for higher handicappers, even from a forward tee box, because approach shots need to be so exacting. Deep bunkers surrounding greens would be a problem, but the sand is perfect for executing the longer, spinning bunker shots needed for these greens. But for a decent player, Red Hawk can be tremendous fun, especially if you are hitting your tee shots well."

“Decent course, maybe the best in Las Cruces, but not something to go out of your way to play. Conditioning just ok."
