Overview

This Jack Nicklaus take on re-creating the Old Course at St. Andrews works on several levels. For starters you can hit the ball all over creation and find it. The greens (seven, of them massive double greens) offer an ego boost for iron play and putting frustration due to their size but are intriguing nonetheless. The $250 sticker price is a bit steep, but it’s less than going to Scotland.

“While it will never play as a links, the New Course does have some unique features to it as a homage to The Old Course. A creative idea designed by Jack Nicklaus straying away from his typical penal design philosophy. The 1st and 18th fairways are shared and about 100 yards wide so easy to get off to a good start! The approach into the 2nd is similar to the one you face on the 5th at The Old and some other similarities throughout. Wish the staff would try to let the course play a little firm and faster but they are more concerned with it being green. The facilities are nice but pace of play is always an issue here and the marshals do not police it. With the portion of the property being off on its own I guess they feel you are on your own as well."

“Nicklaus ode to links golf with all holes being "replicas" of great Scottish ones. Fun to play, but you are still in Orlando so the conditions are quite different."
