“Alister MacKenzie designed many California courses. This may be one of his lesser known, lesser appreciated. Don't get the wrong idea, this is not Cypress Point, Pasatiempo or Augusta National. But it is affordable, in pretty good shape for a muni and it's a MacKenzie design, thoughtful, fair and fun. The greens are large, contoured and interesting and because municipalities maintain on the cheap, the greens speeds remain what they were in Alister's time, as they should. Equipment did not exist in the 1920s to create greens that roll 10 feet and faster on the Stimp. Modern architects and superintendents forget that too often, particularly when old courses get a "restoration." Go play this course, you will be happy and your wallet will not be emptied."
