The Week In Style: 03.25.15
Henrik Stenson/Adam Scott
The duo looked sharp all week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, each pulling together all-black looks over the weekend. Both know how to make single-color setups work and here's why: the lack of contrast in their outfits presents a very powerful image, making them look even more imposing than they already are.Hugo Boss, Uniqlo, FootJoy
Morgan Hoffmann
It was a great week for Hoffmann, despite a disappointing finish. He wears high-contrast colors well, but they are not always the easiest to coordinate. The yellow and black look great because the yellow is a little lighter shade. With the orange and black, however, they're both super saturated and can look heavy together. I totally get reppin' your school's colors, but Hoffmann should use some creative license and work in more grays to balance out his two-tone rigs.Chervo, FootJoy
Rory McIlroy
Rory went four rounds with the white belt at Bay Hill, and each time disrupted his otherwise stylish, athletic look. How many times do we have to tell you: Unless you're wearing white pants, your white belt should stay in the closet. Good style is all about balance, and using an optic white strap to hold your pants up, on or off the course, will almost always throw your look out of balance.Nike Golf
Joakim Lagergren
I'm seeing a lot more of this mixed-material, nylon-and-knit outerwear on the market, and hopefully more golf companies work these styles into their lines. The down chest piece combined with the knit sleeves feel like the perfect early spring/late fall golf layering piece.PeakPerformanceFootJoy
Ryo Ishikawa
If you're trying to add a little levity to your look while still keeping your style game tight, I'd follow Ryo's lead and put some fun floral prints into play this spring. Remember two things, though: first, you can't just re-purpose old Uncle Leo's Hawaiian shirt and think you're going to pull this off. Fit is key, so keep your shirt slim and crisp and the sleeves on the shorter side. Second, even though Ryo's got lots of color going on with his shirt, everything is based in blues. When working with prints pick a color and keep everything around the same shade.Callaway Apparel
Graeme McDowell
One of the game's classiest dressers, GMac pulled out his custom Kartel plaids at Arnie's place and balanced his whole look perfectly. Great job coordinating the woven black belt with the solid black polo, letting the tartans do all the talking.G-Mac by Kartel
Rickie Fowler
Feel like stepping up your trouser game, but not quite ready for the full-on glen plaids? Hit the happy medium with a micro check like Rickie wore Saturday at Bay Hill. Follow Fowler's lead from the solid polo to the matching belt, but consult your caddie before you try ripping your driver off the deck.Cobra/Puma Golf
Danny Lee
I've never seen anyone try what the New Zealander did during the third round at Bay Hill, wearing two different color Callaway shoes. Honestly I'm not sure if the dude mis-packed his shoe bag or meant to make this style statement. Either way it's not one I'd recommend working into your own game. Impressively, he still killed it with the black-and-white floral trousers so maybe he's ahead of his time with the mis-match shoes and I'm just not on his level yet.ChervoCallaway Footwear
Michelle Wie/Cheyenne Woods
I've seen these dip-dyed polos on both the LPGA and PGA tours this season, but the women seem to do a better job pulling them off. Wie and Woods have both worn this really well in one- and two-piece looks. The style feels feminine and athletic. I think Rory and Co. should probably let the ladies take the lead here.Nike Golf
Rickie Fowler
Again, what's with this trouser slit? This can't possibly have a functional purpose, and it certainly doesn't do anything from a style standpoint. Please, please let me in on the secret.Puma Golf
Blayne Barber
This is a really solid look from Barber that blends cool components of classic and contemporary aesthetics into a strong modern style. The solid orange strap stands out a little too much, though, not because of its bright color. Rather it doesn't seem to work with enough accents in the rest of the outfit. An orange-and-navy braided belt or some more pops of orange in Barber's outfit would have rounded everything out a little better.FootJoy
