Overview
The holes at Loraloma skirt rocky bluffs above the Pedernales River northwest of Austin. This is David McLay Kidd’s first course to open in the South and the design embraces the dry and rugged Texas climate with broad all-Zoysia holes that bounce and race and run as fast as any course in the market. Loraloma is part of an upscale real estate development, but the majority of the best land along the river was reserved for golf, where Kidd was able to highlight the views and drama of the site and nestle greens and fairways close to the river precipice.

“Loraloma is, without question, the best golf course in Texas. As one of only three courses in the world to feature Zoysia greens, it stands out not just in the state, but globally. David McLay-Kidd has crafted a true gem perched above Lake Travis, and Stewart Naugler (Director of Agronomy) keeps conditions firm and fast, ensuring every round is as enjoyable as it is challenging. The course offers a true links golf experience, something rare in Texas, set amidst some of the most breathtaking views and natural beauty you’ll find. When the wind picks up, prepare for an even greater test. Loraloma is a truly special, one-of-a-kind destination. If you have the chance to play here, don’t miss it!"

“For a new course Loraloma was in great shape with fast and firm greens and fairways. Very nice Mclay Kidd design along the beautiful Pedernales River, with manicured sand traps where they rake them in the direction of the green. Spacious greens await your approach shots, with green complexes offering a variety of pin positions. Interesting that the course does not offer rakes for their sand traps as McLay Kidd’s desire is to take the golfer back to the early days of golf where their were NO sand trap rakes. I’m not sure if that will continue as the soft sand creates footprints that would not be fair to that Golfer landing in a sand footprint. The use of a double fairway on #6 gives you options depending upon pin placements. Overall, a course I would love to play every day"

“Beautiful new course by David McLay Kidd. VERY PLAYABLE Fairways are stadium zoysia and are some of the finest you will encounter. Firm, fast and near perfect fairway lies. Interesting green complexes that move the ball toward or away from the pin. Numerous ways to play each hole. Not too difficult off the tee - but definitely an enjoyable second shot course."

“New David McLay Kidd design in the Texas Hill Country just west of Austin. Great views of Lake Travis throughout as course is routed on a bluff high above the lake. Wide playing corridors and large undulating greens make the course really fun to play. Club has a great vibe and a very welcoming staff. Definitely say yes if invited to enjoy a round here."

“Another great course design by David McClay Kidd. It’s not links golf, it’s not Texas Hill country golf, it’s a natural gem. The front nine takes full advantage of lake views and the feeling you are part of the surroundings. The back nine is more inland while still peeking views of the lake. A really good blend into the natural elements. An all zoysia grass offering that is very unusual in Texas. The new strain of grass presents a firm and fast surface. The bunkering is unique and diverse as are the greens, with undulating lifts and a variety of shapes."

“David McLay Kidd has created a very fun, strategic course which rolls across the Texas hill country high above the Pedernales River. The zoysia fairways and greens are maintained in such a way that they enable a true links-style ground game, allowing for creativity while going down the fairways and approaching the greens. Very few greens demand that you attack with with an aerial assault. The river canyons are used to great effect. Bunkering is not excessive but well positioned, requiring strategy and forcing decisions. Classic touches include a punchbowl green on a par 3, a shared green (2 and 13), an alps like approach on #3, and a strong finishing hole on #18 that leveraging a risk/reward second shot that allows for a dramatic finish in match or tournament play."

“The holes that border the bluffs of Lake Travis are stunning... huge surrounds around each green for a variety of shot options. Huge fairway landing areas on almost every hole that really aide the playability. Green complexes and pin positions help with resistance to scoring along with fairway bunkering (some in middle of fairways). Short par 3 9th and 10th hole tee over the ravine are excellent. Both of the par 5's on the front 9 are reachable and are fantastic designs."
