Overview
Stonewall’s Old course is a minimalist layout designed by Tom Doak, about 45 miles northwest of Philadelphia. The challenging layout has a good amount of elevation change, including at the par-4 finisher, where the approach plays dramatically downhill to a green set in front of the old stone clubhouse. There are five strong par 3s, including the downhill fifth, where the green is guarded by wetlands short and a creek to the right. The club hosted the 2016 U.S. Mid-Amateur and will host the 2023 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur.

“An outstanding, versatile design that challenges golfers to approach each hole with strategy and purpose. The design never tires, and hits a homerun with one of the more memorable finishing holes in the country. It may be a bit of a tougher challenge for higher caps/shorter hitters as there several forced carries and significant elevation changes throughout."

“Located just outside Main Line Philadelphia, Stonewall is a bucolic and unassuming Club with two Tom Doak courses. The Old Course is seen as the better course and has a number of strengths. For one, it lies on a beautiful property with lots of elevation changes and views of the surrounding farmland. It also is in extremely good condition with firm fairway, thick rough, and very quick greens. The par threes and closing hole are real standouts here, and the course's other defining feature are its small, sloped greens that make it play much more difficult than the scorecard would indicate. It is not quite as strong as the elite Philly courses but is an excellent club and course and well-worth a visit."

“Wonderful modern course built in a traditional style. Challenging, but fair. Playable by most from the correct set of tees."

“Stonewall Old has an interesting history. The original routing was done by Tom Fazio, but the project was delayed and it lost it's place in Fazio's queue. Tom recommended an unknown architect named Tom Doak, and the rest is history. Doak kept most of the original routing with a few key changes, the biggest of which was to reverse the direction of the original 10th hole and change it to the 18th. The result is a spectacular finish with the green set in front of the old stone clubhouse."
