“Downer's Grove is one of the most historical golf sites in America, the site of the country's first 18-hole golf course, built in the 1890s. Unfortunately, 130 years later only 9 holes remain, and only a small subset date back to when the course was the original Chicago Golf Club, an entity that decamped for Wheaton about 20-25 years after the original was built. Fortunately, the course today remains as a well-kept neighborhood nine that still earns a few visits from the history-minded in between hosting leagues and local players, and the place still maintains the feel of Golden Age golf. While maybe not worth a special trip, it's a nice add-on if in town visiting one of Chicago's greats."
