Overview
Perhaps no course in the greater Phoenix area provides a better experience of the area's diverse topography. Some holes are framed by mountain ridges, others are out in the Sonoran desert. Still others are edged by manmade irrigation lakes or natural desert washes. Holes like the par-5 eighth and par-4 14th climb up long slopes, while dazzling par 3s at six and 16 plunge dramatically downhill. Quintero, a former private club, is a scenic and playable delight.

“Very scenic golf club, The par threes are very dramatic but all steep vertical drop. too repetitive. the conditions weren't ideal because of time of changes grasses."

“An extremely picturesque course, with overall good design. While the par 3s are all beautiful, 3 of the 4 play significantly downhill making club selection problematic for a first time player (albeit they are breathtaking). Green complexes are good and fair, but bent grass greens have obviously taken a beating from heavy play, and it did impact the role of the ball on a number of putts. Shot options are strong, with frequently being able to take either driver, or less than driver, off of the tee. A really fun and special course--moderately pricey."

“Given the popularity of Quintero, I was honestly expecting more, especially for the high greens fee. This is a beautiful golf course without question, with pretty downhill par threes, and amazing cactus-strewn views. I was just aching for more substance here. Quintero contributes to the sense that Phoenix-area public golf, while very attractive to this Northeasterner, is not where to go to find strategic golf."

“Really fun, challenging golf! Similar to Wolf Creek in Nevada. Many tee boxes where you stand there with your mouth open. Target golf for sure - you'd better be hitting the ball straight! If you want a unique golf experience Quintero is for you! Kind of course that can easily beat you up, but you'll still want to play it again. Great elevation changes which require precise shot making. Score well for 18 holes and you are part of a small group who can boast they tamed this course! If you only like traditional course layouts - stay away."

“Well worth the effort to drive to get there. Played in the rain. Still very enjoyable."

“Great par 3's. Impressive variety and course was in great shape."

“Course offers little to no shot options. Requires precision on nearly every shot, with almost any miss being severely penalized. Many fairways bottle neck in the landing zone for a longer player, and the dense desert brush often offers zero playability or punch out. Par 3s and 4s are very repeatable in distance. There are no short par 4s that offer good risk reward, and no short par 3s that require a precise wedge or high iron. With repeatable challenging holes that offer no risk reward options, the course wears out the player and is rather unenjoyable. Somewhere in designing this, Rees Jones forgot that hero golf is only meant to be played by the extremely elite players, and is not enjoyable for the everyday player."

“Quintero is a somewhat typical Rees Jones design on a remote desert property well northwest of Phoenix surrounded by mountains. The main selling point is the surroundings and the sense of isolation of each hole from the others. There are a few precipitous drops, some rather sharp rises, but also a surprising number of flat holes. Water comes into play on a handful of holes, but when present it is not always used to full advantage. There is a repetitive nature to many holes, in which there is a somewhat downhill tee shot and an approach to an elevated green, which slopes from back to front. In fact, all four of the par 3s are downhill holes with similar yardages. There is not really a strong sense of risk-reward—in fact, most holes do not require a lot of thought or strategy, as there is really only one way to attack the hole. The course’s main defense is the green surrounds, with some holes hard along the desert (off to the rear of an elevated green) and some incredibly deep greenside bunkers."

“Spectacular conditioning and views on course. Layout is above average but not spectacular. Wonderful place for an out of towner day of golf, but amenities are lacking."
