Woods comes and goes as quickly as a Minnesota summer

August 12, 2009

CHASKA, Minn. -- There should be a written disclaimer for Wednesday ticket holders at major championships. Something like, "Warning: if you bought this ticket in hopes of seeing Tiger Woods, tough luck. He doesn't play on Wednesdays of majors. He might hit balls or putt for a bit. But you have about as much a chance of seeing a John Daly pilates routine in the fitness trailer as you do of seeing Woods on the golf course."

So in other words, Woods didn't play at Hazeltine today, opting instead for a morning practice session on the range. Perhaps the most noteworthy part of it all was that Woods was accompanied by Hank Haney, his swing coach who was conspicuously absent from the British Open at Turnberry.

But everything else has been standard fare for Woods, who stopped practicing the Wednesday before a major even before he injured his knee, all in hopes of being fresh for the first round on Thursday.

Given his last two weeks, I suppose he's earned the break.
