Bubba Watson came into the Northern Trust Open ranked 199th (out of 217 players) on the PGA Tour in strokes gained/putting. At Riviera, however, Watson found the touch, posting a strokes-gained number of 1.310, ranked 11th for the week.

Watson's putter is a Ping Anser Milled 1 prototype that he switched to at December's Hero World Challenge. The putter was originally 339 grams, but Watson felt that was too heavy so he asked Ping to mill 10 grams of weight out of the head to get the weight to the two-time Masters champion's liking. The club also includes a dot on the top rail (per Watson's request) as opposed to a line for alignment.
