Wentworth to be restored ‘to its former glory’ after facelift went awry

“The iconic layout [Wentworth] on the outskirts of London was originally designed by Harry Colt in 1926 but has undergone a complete facelift from four-times major champion Ernie Els in the last decade.

“The changes have not met with unanimous approval and top players such as Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson, Ian Poulter and Padraig Harrington chose to give the tour's flagship event a miss this year for a variety of reasons.

"There are a number of players that aren't here because they don't want to play this golf course," European Tour CEO Keith Pelley said.

‘Is there such a thing as choking? Absolutely’

“Choking.

“The word alone conjures misery; the need for a Heimlich-like maneuver,” Rob Oller of the Columbus Dispatch writes in this examination of one of the most dreaded words in golf.

“Is there such a thing as choking? Absolutely, but there’s nothing wrong with it,” Padraig Harrington said. “Because I know if I put my neck on the line, I’m going to get it chopped off every so often, but the win is going to be worth getting it chopped off the other times. People who don’t think there’s such a thing as choking — they’re not winners. They’re not prepared to put themselves out there in real battle.”
