Earlier this week, we relayed a story about a heckler's run-in with Ian Poulter at the Valspar Championship. According to the man, named JJ Downum, his jeers caused Poulter to hit a shot into the water. Poulter responded by informing Downum's employers about his behavior:
Already an odd story, the tale took another turn Thursday, as the heckler has been fired from his job at Florida Southern.
"He's no longer employed at the institution," said Pete Meyer, Florida Southern's director of athletics and dean of wellness on Wednesday, to Florida's Ledger newspaper.
Downum had worked in the university's athletic department. His tweet boasting about his confrontation with Poulter, now deleted, can be found at Barstool Sports.
