This woman just accomplished something no lefty golfer -- not even Phil Mickelson -- has ever done

September 16, 2016

Meet Julia Potter. At work, she's the marketing director for the Indiana Golf Office. On the course, she's now one of the most accomplished left-handed golfers in history.

On Thursday, Potter defeated Shannon Johnson in the final of the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur at Kahkwa Club in Erie, Pa. That made her just the fifth woman to win the tournament more than once. Putting her in even more select company, though, is the fact Potter is now the only lefty golfer -- male or female -- to win multiple USGA titles.

That's, um, right, not even Phil Mickelson, one of five lefty male golfers to win a USGA championship, has accomplished the feat. Mickelson's one USGA title came at the 1990 U.S. Amateur, but the U.S. Open is the lone major he's missing to complete the career Grand Slam, having finished runner-up in the event a record six times.

So congrats, Julia. And feel proud, lefty nation.
